"To be saved: faith saves you, not knowledge about God?" - I sometimes get this question addressed to me.

My first response: What is faith based on? It is not knowledge about Jesus Christ and what He has done for you, which is what your faith rests on? Therefore I conclude by saying that you cannot have faith in God without knowledge. Now the question is this: how important is knowledge in salvation? I ask this question very bluntly because many in my day and age are under the delusion that little or no knowledge about God is need for salvation, only faith.

Romans 10:9 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved...So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

John 6:29, "Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."

From these two verses alone it is clear unless you believe that (1) Christ Jesus is the "Lord", (2) that He was crucified and "raised" from the dead by God the Father, (3) that "God" is the one who "sent" Christ to earth, then you will not be saved.

There are numerous scriptures, which I could add to this list which give "absolutes truths" about Jesus Christ you must believe by "faith" in order to be saved. But I believe the above is enough to prove there are certain truths you must believe if you are to be saved, there is no obscurity about this in the scriptures.

At this point some might say: "you limit salvation by saying such things, the way you say it only a few are being saved." My response: "Matthew 7:14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."

What then should we do in real life when face with the above facts? We should be very diligent to know all we can about our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ and how we are saved. Likewise we should be diligent to check and see if we have in fact experienced true salvation. Lastly we should be diligent to tell others fully and clearly the complete Gospel truths about Jesus Christ, so that others might authentically come to a saving knowledge of our Lord.
