- I feel like I am in some type of twilight zone being teased, always at the verge of worship but yet never doing it! -
When I read a book solely on how to be a good Christian without any reference to show how Grand and Magnificent God is, I get the same thing I see at times in modern day worship songs. Since I am a musician and songwriter I have spent a lot of time reviewing and watching how worship has changed in its theology. For example I have been in church services, where only modern worship songs are played, where we never get the chance to worship but only sing about worship. This is what I mean. The song will say things like this “I surrender to you, I will praise you, I will sing of you name, Let the church sing to their maker, We will worship you in this place,” but yet we never get the chance to hardly say his Name, or sing about what God has done for us, we never get the chance to worship. I feel like I am in some type of twilight zone being teased, always at the verge of worship but yet never doing it! For example if you look at all the “songs” in the bible; the songs of David, Moses, Mary, songs of the saints and angels in Heaven and so forth you will not find them saying those kind of things; because it is not worship, it is not honoring to God. What you find these true worshipers doing is singing about who God is and what God has done for them, and little singing about themselves, if even at all. If all you sing is “I” praise, “I” worship but never sing about the great and Many wonderful things God has done for you then IT IS NOT WORSHIP. It becomes self-Idolatry because at this point it becomes man center. It centers on how god is worthy of MY praise, not about what GOD has done, but about what MAN is doing for god. I don’t know of one song recorded in the bible, which was sung in the Throne room of the Almighty God, which centered more on Man worshiping god v’s how Absolutely Awesome God is.
Any thing you think, do, act or sing about more than God is Idolatry. In 2 Corinthians 11:2 it says we have been given to “One Husband”. Meaning we have one doctrine, one love, one primary passion in life. And if that is not God then it is Idolatry. If all you sing about is you singing praise to God and not singing about what God has done for you then it is Idolatry. It is a huge warning to the church when even worship is use as self-glorification, and not for God. For 2 Corinthians 4:7 says, “That the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” God will not share His Glory with no one. Thus God will one day demand all to give an account of who they really worship and thus God will declare if He really knew them or not! This problem with worship is the outcome of the church tossing Theology to the universities and depending too much on pragmatic teaching “on 3 sets to a being a Christian”. And why not, it sure is a lot easier. I could have been teaching that sort of thing my self when I was 7 years old. But to be submerged in the fellowship of Christ in the doctrine of scripture takes a deep love for God and a lot of time and hard work. A pleasurable discipline that is well worth the eternal rewards for those who honestly Love God.( Psalm 111)
It should make us fear that we have become so practical we can’t even sing to God about His Excellent power without having our eyes focused on ourselves. Nothing new for even our first parents rejected the Almighty Glorious God for mere fruit and knowledge. No wonders the church in awash in a sea of shameful sins. As far I have seen there is no lasting help or happiness in the resources of self, none at all. The idolatry of Self-esteem will send you straight to hell, faster than anything else. Just as Satan made the fruit pleasing to the eye of our original parents, he will also make self-esteem look pleasing to the sinful minds of men. God esteem is our only hope for true worship. God esteem is the only cure for the heart; it is the ONLY thing that will bring happiness, completeness and value to someone’s life. God esteem is our goal
