Matthew 25:44, Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

Here Jesus Christ tells us that we are to seek Him like a treasure. We also see that true salvation is Joy in knowing this treasure, this Jesus Christ. We see Christ is Honored not because the man out of unemotional duty sells all He has to get this treasure, but instead for Joy over it(Christ) sells all he has. Through this joy in Him, Christ is show to be magnificent and more to be desired than this entire world has to offer. Because the man sold all he had in this world for the treasure of being brought near to God. The man saw Christ “greater riches”(Hebrews 11:26) as far superior than what the world could offer. Salvation comes through having more joy in Christ than anything in this world. And Sanctification is carried through by this same joy in Christ over anything in this world. So much that it will even lead some to die in foreign mission fields in order to see others have this same joy in Beholding Jesus Christ. This little parable is not a command but a insight into what is true salvation. What we see is Joy in Christ is the defining mark for this, and the proof that the man had saving joy in Christ is the fact that he sold all he had to have Jesus. Now in salvation joy is also mixed with fear of one’s sins in view of a Holy God, but this same fear is what brings us to the joy of knowing Christ who has paid our debt that we could have never done ourselves.

So what this mean for us is a need to pray for God to open our eyes to see Christ as the truly infinite Treasure that He is. God created us with hearts which itself implies we were made to desire and enjoy something worth desiring. And there is nothing more beautiful and enjoyable and worth of all desiring than our Great God and Savoir Jesus Christ.

So I encourage all to lay aside all distractions aside and pursue the living God through the mercy found in Jesus Christ.  Oshea Davis: your fellow laborer in the Joy of Christ Jesus
