1 Timothy 1:11,”According to the Glorious Gospel of the [Happy] God.”

When I say that God's happniess more than anything comes from Himself, it is the same in saying God's happiness consists in His Son Jesus Christ. I would like to bring up the word “fountain.” What does it mean for God to call Himself a fountain.  The point God is making is that He is not just full of beauty and splendors and perfections but He is forever overflowing in all His Perfections.  That is why he creates.  It is God's Glory going public. It is God communicating how great He is.  Creation came out of the overflowing reservoir of His happiness in Himself and not out of deficiency. God did not create out of need or lack of happiness. Creation dose not add anything to make God any happier than He is already in Himself. Eon’s ago before we ever came along God was perfectly and completely Happy with the communion in Himself, His son and the Holy Spirit and the Joy they shared in one another. Here is a quote from A. W. Pink on the solitariness of God in His book “The Attributes of God”. Here he writes:

“There was a time, if “time” it could be called, when God, in the unity of His nature, dwelt all alone, “In the beginning, God.”…There was nothing, no one, but God; and that, not for a day, a year, or an age, but “from everlasting.” During a past eternity, God was alone: self-contained, self-sufficient, self-satisfied; in need of nothing….The creating of them(all of creation) when He did, added nothing to God essentially. He changes not (Mal. 3:6) Therefore His essential Glory can neither be augmented nor diminished… That He did create was simply for His manifestive Glory.”

God changes not. Which means His essential Happiness changes not. Showing God did not create out of needing more happiness or because He was lonely or because He was board. Since this is true that God does not change, then creating human beings does not add to God's essential happiness, why? Why then should God create? What this shows to us is this: God made a point about Him not us when He decided to create. The reason God wasted some much space in making the universe to house a little planet called earth on which we live is to make a glorious point about His Infinite Worth and Majesty. God created because it pleased Him to go public with His Glory, or to manifest His Glory and for that reason only.

Jonathan Edwards: “The end for which God created the world” – “…then it is reasonable to suppose that he had respect to Himself, as His last and highest end, in this work[creation] because He is worthy in Himself to be so, being infinitely the greatest and best of beings. All things else, with regard to worthiness, importance, and excellence, are perfectly as nothing in comparison to Him.”

Here we see, as Edwards points out in his book, God is infinity the most perfect and worthy of all beings. For every thing else is or has been created by God. God is and will forever be the Supreme Being who is most worthy of all praise, marveling, honor, and excellence. God is happy in Himself and all He dose, He does to the ultimate end of “To His Glory”. His creating was a natural overflow of His perfections being communicated.  Just like a fountain is prone to overflow with water.

    Jonathan Edwards:

“So if God both esteemed and delighted in His own perfections and virtues, He cannot but value and delights in the expressions and genuine effects of them. So that in delighting in the expressions of His perfections, He manifests a delight in Himself…that is, it is fit that he should take delight in His own excellencies being seen, acknowledged, esteemed, and delighted in… and in making this His end, He makes Himself His end.

Matthew 25 Jesus tells us a parable about Himself when he invites some to enter into heaven. He will say to the good servant “enter you’re your masters Joy.” From this we get one very key insight: God is full of Joy. God is a happy God and wants to share it with us.  We serve a Joyful Master.

He is Sovereign over all things and procedures, acting’s and every thing between whether by direct willing or permission. Because God does whatever He pleases then He is never frustrated. (Palms 115:3, and 135:6)

And if He is never frustrated then God is Perfectly happy. The only way for someone to be perfectly happy is first they must be absolutely in control of all things.  God is sovereign over ALL things in life. (Ephesians 1:11) But not only is God Sovereign but like I stated earlier He actually overflows in all His moral perfections. He is absolutely complete in all that he is! His Happiness is Himself. So the only way for a creature to obtain perfect happiness is if this One and only happy God decides to share this happiness with His creatures in His own choice of kindness. For a created creature to hope for complete happiness any other way is an utter fairytale.

So it is not wrong for God to be self-centered in light of what has just be discussed. For if He was not, then God would show that there was something more beautiful for Him to center His focus and happiness in. Which would mean he would betray himself.  For it is in this that our own happiness is found, we need to center our eyes on Him and take everlasting joy and pleasure in His Glory just as he does! For in doing so we communicate to the whole of creation that God is the greatest value and treasure in the entire universe.  Or to put is differently we would be doing the very thing for which God created us in this world in the first place. Which is to Glorify God by enjoying Him forever.

Yours in Christ: Oshea
