Hebrews 2:14, "Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."
Some might be prone to think: I have never feared death, why then would Lord Jesus need to save me from this?
The problem is that there is a form of fearing death that some do not take in to account. This from of "fearing death" is deceptive and probably is intended to be that way by the devil. It deceives its victim to think they don't fear death, because there is no life after death and so it is best to live in any sin that seems delightful until you died, for today is all we have. What foolishness this is in the sight of a Holy God who will judge every thought and intention of man.
It deceives its victim that they don't fear death, therefore, enjoy the forbidden pleasure of life until they end. But you see, in reality it is quite the opposite.
What is actually happening is that this particular person is afraid of death both for the known (there just might be a God) and second, which is what we are concerned with is this: the realization that life is meaningless brings the chocking fear of vanity and worthlessness that death will cover up in its final call upon all living creatures, no matter how noble, successful and good the life was. See the fear of life's vanity stirs up a type of "fearing death" so that a person out of this fear will dive more into sinful pleasure thinking that its best to enjoy as much now while I'm still in this vain life. Whether the victim intellectually thinks this our not, this is the power of sin using the "fear of death" to further is cause to destroy its victim to perdition.
(Sin is deceitful and will use all occasions to kill and enslave its victim)
(Oh Lord my God, keep me from deceitful and presumptuous sins, Amen)
(Update: 1/8/08) (* Disclaimer....this post involves some graphic langue*)
I was at another forum (secular) and read this in a person's signature:
"the one thing you taught me about human beings was this: "they ain't made of nothing but water and sh*t- What People are Made Of
There's one thing to know about this earth. We're put here just to make more dirt- Night on the Sun."
This is exactly what I mean in my first post. Life is vain, we're just here to add more dirt; might as well just dive into more pride, selflessness, sex, drugs or whatever sinful thing floats your boat, because we're nothing but water and dirt.
Vanity, all is Vanity; Vanity will eat up your thoughts and enslave your soul into more sin and when you have tried it all, every little vain thing this world offers, and your still alive, then suicide will sit as king of your mind, as you, the beaten subject, contemplate obeying your vain king.
Thank God Jesus Christ saved us from this fear of death!!
